The Top Five Books on Leadership
Here are the top 5 books to help you become a better leader, develop a stronger team, and become a better manager or boss. We’ve read through all of these (and more!) to figure out what will be the most helpful for you. These are must-reads if you want to ultimately become effective leaders such as JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon or Disney CEO Bob Iger.
(1) James M. Kouzes & Barry Z. Posner, "The Leadership Challenge" : Learn the framework for effective leadership through practical tips on becoming an effective leader.
(2) Simon Sinek’s, "Start With Why": The focus of Sinek’s book is the crucial importance of figuring out your own "why" or leadership purpose, and how you can inspire as well as motivate others (whether as a boss or in another management capacity).
(3) Eric Ries, "The Lean Startup": Ries emphasizes how to apply his lean principles to startups and other businesses so that you can drive innovation, productivity, and growth. He tackles real issues such as eliminating wasted productivity and how to track real progress and results.
(4) Brené Brown’s, "Dare to Lead": According to Brown, vulnerability, authenticity, and being real is so important in leadership. Brown offers practical tips to generate this leadership in your management style.
(5) Patrick Lencioni’s, "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team": Lencioni’s book explores common issues and problems that teams deal with such as the absence of trust and the fear of conflict and how to overcome them in order to make sure your team is more cohesive, productive, and effective.
Leadership is very complex and not one specific book can guarantee you become a better leader. However, reading these books will help you identify the common traits and characteristics (as well as problems and challenges) in order to overcome them.
